What We’ve Been Working On:
ICYMI, we hosted a four-day activation during Toronto Tech Week: And it was epic. As I reported last month, our past few weeks have been spent bringing our biggest activation to life and, despite all the blood (literally, you should see my scrapes), sweat (think I need to dispose of a few tees), and tears (happy, mainly), it was worth every bit of schlep and then some. It was so special to introduce (or perhaps, re-introduce) Cache in its current form to the Toronto (and Canadian) tech community with the help of Sarah Bartnicka of Milk Bag who hosted a fireside chat between the two of us, was something I will not forget. What followed was three days of resale featuring six new sellers on the app and DAMN Toronto, you did not disappoint. Thank you to every single person who showed up to shop, hang, support, schmooze, and just exist in the Cache orbit for a moment. I am still coming down from the high of it all, oozing with gratitude and genuinely in disbelief at what our small but mighty team pulled off. This is truly just the beginning. And remember, even if you are not Toronto-based and could not make it out, you can shop 24/7 online and on the app.

Bringing the brand back together: Now that the hard stuff is out of the way, you know, like building an app that can actually host items, transact, ship, and all that, (kidding, it is all hard), we are turning our attention to bringing more of the Cache brand into the experience. I love how sleek and easy to use our current interface is, and we are not touching that. But Cache is bold, fun, cheeky, and colourful, and we think the app should reflect more of that personality, alongside some more intuitive UI tweaks. We will be seeking user feedback on the design, and if you want in, we will reward you with Cache $ to spend. DM me or reach out at hi@cacheinyourcloset.com.
Automation nation & authentication station: We are busy building internal tools to help automate our cataloguing process so we can onboard more sellers with more items for you to shop. On the trust side, we also recently started using CheckCheck for third-party authentication of all luxury handbags and accessories. Verification is a huge part of resale and a huge part of the Cache experience we want you to have. Think of it like shopping from a vetted seller's closet: every piece is confirmed authentic before it ever reaches you.
What We’ve Learned:
There is no substitute for rolling up your sleeves: You can analyze every scenario, plan for every contingency, and have all your checks and balances in place. But nothing replaces getting your product out into the world and letting the universe, and your customers, show you what is and is not working. That is the beauty of in-person events and having a live app. Some of what we thought we got right, we did. Other things? We had no idea until we were in it. A seller onboarding flow that felt seamless in testing looked completely different when someone was actually using it for the first time in front of us The wishlist and shipping flows didn’t necessarily pan out the way we expected, and watching real people move through the app in real time told us more than any internal review ever could. You observe, you tweak, you redesign, you pivot. That is what rolling up your sleeves actually means, and honestly, there is no better teacher.
What We’re Reading:
Famesick by Lena Dunham: I have been "reading," or in this case listening to the audio version, of Famesick for the past couple of weeks and what a treat. There is something so intimate about hearing Dunham narrate her own journey with fame, and the toll it takes, particularly on a young twenty-something navigating her most formative years while simultaneously depicting those years on screen. She is wickedly talented in a way that is hard to explain: her prose is intricate and sophisticated and yet it lands like a casual conversation over burritos and lattes. To write so effortlessly and so articulately at the same time is not a skill, it is a gift. The book feels like a deeply personal Vanity Fair essay with all the spunk and wit of GIRLS. Highly recommend, especially on audio.
PSA: Lena Dunham actually promoted Famesick through a Substack press tour (shoutout to homegirl Dolly Meckler, the mastermind behind this strategy), making guest appearances across publications she actually reads and loves, keeping the whole thing feeling organic rather than calculated. The approach paid off, with Dunham noting that Substack followers are far more likely to follow through and buy a book than followers on Instagram or X, making the platform one of the most valuable stops on any press tour (couldn’t agree more).
