The Lyst Index for Q4 2024 ranks Miu Miu as the most popular fashion brand, marking its third time at the top in the past year: Saint Laurent and Prada follow in second and third place, respectively. Notably, Coach surged 10 spots to fifth place, driven by strong social media buzz and successful holiday sales. Ugg also made a comeback, ranking tenth, with a 358% increase in searches over three months.
The "no buy 2025" trend encourages individuals to minimize new purchases, focusing on essentials and re-evaluating consumption habits: This movement has gained traction on social media, with participants sharing their commitment to buying less or nothing at all. Factors such as rising prices, increased household debt, and a condensed holiday season have motivated many to adopt this approach. This trend reflects a broader desire to live within one's means and manage personal finances more effectively amidst economic challenges.
The prioritization of shareholders' financial interests is slowing sustainability progress in the fashion industry: This focus on short-term profits often conflicts with long-term environmental and social goals. However, a shift toward sustainable governance, such as B Corp certification and integrating ethical strategies, is emerging as a way to balance these interests. The trend signals that companies are beginning to recognize the need to prioritize both profits and sustainability.
ASOS is finalizing the integration of vintage and boutique sellers from its Marketplace onto ASOS.com by April: This move aims to provide customers with a more streamlined shopping experience, combining ASOS' own brands with independent and vintage sellers. The integration will offer enhanced features like "Buy the Look," allowing users to purchase entire outfits from multiple sellers at once. Sellers will benefit from increased visibility and improved inventory control through ASOS’ flexible fulfillment system.
The one and only is officially launching "Sourced By," an AI-powered fashion tech platform in March: Sourced By will assist stylists and personal shoppers by streamlining the sourcing of hard-to-find items using image and text recognition. The platform aims to automate much of the manual work involved, improving efficiency and expanding sourcing capabilities. It will initially launch to a select group of beta users, focusing on gathering feedback to refine the product.
Stella McCartney has repurchased the minority stake held by LVMH in her namesake fashion label, returning to full independent ownership: Despite this change, she will continue to serve as LVMH's Global Ambassador on Sustainability, advising CEO Bernard Arnault and the executive team on environmental initiatives. This move comes approximately five years after LVMH acquired a 49% stake in the brand, following McCartney's prior partnership with Kering. The decision reflects McCartney's desire to independently steer her brand's future while maintaining her influential role in promoting sustainability within the luxury industry.
Gap has expanded its partnership with designer Sean Wotherspoon, appointing him as the Global Vintage Curator to launch the GapVintage program: Starting February 4, 2025, this initiative will offer customers globally sourced vintage Gap pieces from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, including items like the '90s Striped Pocket T-Shirt and '80s Denim Jacket Hoodie. The collection will be available online and at select locations, such as the Flatiron Store in New York.
Primark has expanded its adaptive clothing line to include menswear, womenswear, underwear, and nightwear, following the initial launch of adaptive women's underwear in 2024: Developed in collaboration with designer Victoria Jenkins, founder of the Unhidden brand, the 49-piece collection features practical adaptations such as magnetic zips, pockets with tube access, side-seam belts, and enlarged pockets for medical devices. The range also offers styles tailored for seated individuals, including wardrobe staples like jeans, knitted sweaters, plain T-shirts, and wrap dresses, with adjustments made to length, hems, and fastenings.
